Day 12 - the wind
Well today we leave Davis Mountains State Park heading for Big Bend National Park. I get up early to take some sunrise pictures at the scenic overlook:
We next pack up UTT and head toward Big Bend National Park(BBNP). We have reservations at Study Butte RV Park. The closest RV Park to BBNP. When we made reservations, the website said to call Dave and he would make the reservation. We did and he did. When we arrived at the park we were not quite sure if we were in the right location, but thought we were. We drive into the RV park, which like most RV parks we stay in is just a plot of land with electricity, water and sewage. We drive into the place and park. A lady named Lynn from the taco stand walks up to Vicki. Vicki says we have a reservation and she has no idea what Vicki is talking about. Vicki said we called Dave and he took our information. She later called Dave back to confirm. He said all was OK. Lynn says there is no Dave working here. Dave it seems is the previous owner from years ago and apparently still takes reservations. Luckily he didn't ask us to pay and luckily the RV park had space. There is an old website still active that has Dave's name and number. But all is good because Lynn finds us a nice location.
After hooking up, we walk over to the taco stand and Lynn serves up very good Mexican food. After lunch I head over to BBNP with the idea of taking pictures until sunset, which is 8:15pm. Around 5pm I get a text from Vicki that it really windy at the trailer. Then she sends another. I am guessing this means it would be a good idea to come back to UTT. So, I head on back. When I get there it is really windy; there is no rain just a strong 20+ mph wind. Vicki closed up the awning when the wind started to gust. One of our fellow RVers did not, and their awning ripped off. We sit in UTT for 4+ hours getting hit by these winds. Finally, I had to go outside. I look to the west and there was the infamous gap in the clouds, which means an interesting sunset. I walk to the place next store with offers me a break from the wind and start taking sunset pictures. Vicki and Max came over for awhile. Towards the end there is lightning in the overhead clouds. It was a really cool sunset.
Eventually, a thunderstorm passes over. Lots of thunder and lightening and it sounded like it was raining but when we went outside, the ground was barely wet. Crazy!
UTT survives another day!
