Day 71: Mt. Moran outlook
Saturday, June 10, 2017
I get up early for sunrise. Now I have to figure out where to go. I try Mt. Moran but the lighting is not quite right; it really needs to be later when the shadows are less horizontal.
I go to Jackson Lake dam to try to get something.
I go to Colter Bay Village next.
The mother bear and cubs are across a bridge today. It is drizzly and cloudy but we stop to get pictures. The cubs are fun to watch; they are climbing trees today.
The mother bear and her cubs want to cross the bridge. We are asked to leave our location so they can cross. It is also cloudy and drizzly anyway so we go back to the cabin and take a nap.
An hour or two later we wake up and the sun is out. We take off to find a moose.
First a stop to see the bear situation a few miles from cabin. The bears have crossed the bridge. I end up with back lighting on the bears, which is cool but difficult to manage. We don't stay very long because we are moose hunting.
We stop at a couple of other places where we heard there could be moose but to no avail. We stop at Oxbow Bend where there could be moose but see none. I did see this scene and I knew it was going to be a cool sunset. I get sucked down to the lake to take sunset pictures. I keep moving around to get the right composition. I have completely forgot we were moose hunting.
I decided to look behind - kind of cool
Back the other way.
I finally found a spot without the grass on the side.
I finally came up, from the lake shore. Vicki had been busy. She talked with a retired IU professor from South Bend who had retired to Idaho. She had talked with a lady who had seen a moose. She tried to get my attention by yelling but I did not answer. There was a lady from the Park's foundation who was there to help photographers. She liked these pictures. It is getting dark and Vicki wanted to find the moose. We try, but no luck. We will attempt to find it tomorrow.
