Day 28: Stars

Image
So I get up at 3am in the morning (Zachary originally wanted to join me, but I talked him out of it, since I was getting so early).  The current weather conditions at the south rim is cloudy and in the 40s.  I know there is a chance there will not be any stars out but I set out for Desert View, which has the watch tower.  I arrive at Desert View, get the equipment out and walk to where I will take the star trails.  I start the picture taking but cannot see any stars.  I walk down to where I was going to take the picture of the milky way.  I find out then and there that the sky is completely overcast except for a little bit to the east.  So, I think I will not take picture here and go to Lapin Point to take sunrise.  I take all the equipment back to the car except one camera which is in the middle of a long exposure.  When I get back to the area, I cannot find the darn camera.  It took me over 10 minutes to find it.  Once I did that it was too late to go somewhere else.  So, here are so

Today my daughter Karen, Sean , and Guinnie (2.5 years) are arriving.  My sister Mary Beth, Thomas, Zach (10 years) and Matt (10 years) are arriving.  Last chance to take sunrise pictures before family gets here.  Once they arrive the priorities are different, as they should do, moving more toward family. So this morning I decide to go on the south rim trail outside the hotel room.  It was not the most exciting sunrise as far as dynamics goes but here are a few pictures: Sunrise from South Rim Trail Sunrise from South Rim Trail Sunrise from South Rim Trail Vicki and I scouted out ShoShone Point, Lipan Point & Desert View  for potential sunrise or sunset opportunities.  All of them were really cool overlooks with great potential for early morning light.  I'll show you some of the pictures but the lighting was terrible: ShoShone Point ShoShone Point ShoShone Point Lipan Point Desert View Desert View Desert View Desert View Des
