Day 57: A lot of stuff to do.

Saturday, May 27, 2017

We get up early today, lots of stuff to do.  Vicki and I have put together a list of items we still need from UTT and the car.  We call the number for Lee's Towing.  We get Lee who is out towing and he gives us another number.  Vicki calls it; she wakes up Cindy, Lee's wife.  She said she would call us when she was ready for us.

We are going to box up items we don't need.  So we pick up boxes at Lowes.

When we get back we start to organize what we need to take with us to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and the rest is boxed up.

We talk to David and Susan to let them know of the situation and they offer to let us stay in their motor home in West Yellowstone. During the discussion David mentions going to Gardiner, which is the North West entrance to Yellowstone.  We tell them to let us think about it and we would give them a call back.

Cindy finally calls and Vicki, Max and I head off again to Lee's towing.  We fill up 1/2 the back!!!

When we get back we mull things over for Yellowstone and Grand Tetons and continue to organize
  • West Yellowstone:   5/30/2017-6/3/2017
  • Gardiner (NW entrance):  6/3/2017-6/7/2017
We add in the Grand Tetons: 6/7/2017-6/11/2017

As we mull things over for Yellowstone, we considered renting a motor home, which would mean either driving it around all over the place or renting a car also.  The advantage would be no hotel/motel rooms.   We look at renting a cabin or motel room in West Yellowstone and cannot find anything for the 5 days. We are able to find rooms in Gardiner. We also find a cabin at the Grand Tetons, actually in the park.  We found a storage place in Pocatello that we can rent for a month to put all of our boxes that we don't need with us.  We also need to find a kennel for Max. Vicki finds a suitable kennel in Pocatello.

Now that we know we can put together all of these plans, we decide to take David and Susan up on there offer, then follow them to Gardiner, where we will stay in a hotel room, and then off to the Grand Tetons to stay in a cabin for a few days.  After that we want to head back to Pocatello

The next question is how do we head home.  We cannot fly home since Max is with us plus how do we get everything else home.  We seriously considered a U-haul truck but Max would not do well in that since he would have to sit up front with us.  Finally, we decide to rent a minivan.  We think we can get everything in the minivan along with the three of us.  The big hesitation is the cost of one-way rental of the vehicle.  This would get us home around the end of June.

Todo list for tomorrow so far:
  • Take boxes to storage
  • Rent a smaller car for the next couple of weeks for Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons
  • Rent a mini van for the trip home.
  • Find a place for Max to stay.
Places visited:
  • Big Bend National Park
  • Grand Canyon National Park
  • Upper Antelope Canyon
  • Horseshoe Bend
  • Arches National Park
  • Canyonlands National Park
  • Bryce Canyon National Park
  • Zion National Park

  • Utah Lake State Park
