Day 36: Arches Still open
Saturday May 6, 2017
Today I did sunrise at Arches since it is open early enough. I get up early and go to Balanced Rock to get more star pictures. The moon is setting at 4:15am. and sunrise is at 6:15. The plan is to get the Milky way and attempt to get some star trails. I arrive at the Balance Rock parking lot around 4:15am. The parking lot is pretty much on target for shooting the milky way. I look for the milky way to the south, but cannot see it so I decide to set up on the other side of Balanced Rock looking toward the north star. In order to do this I have to walk in uncharted area. As I am doing so I hear a pattering noise of something near me. Since I am by myself I decide to head back to the car as quickly as my feet can take me. In hindsight it was probably a rabbit. I go back to the Balanced Rock parking lot and this time I see it. I work my way to the east a bit and find a couple of guys with their spouses doing the same thing and I join them.
I like the last two better than the first two but all of them need more post processing. However, they are better than Day 35.
It is now getting toward sunrise so off to the Windows area. Before getting to windows I have to take a couple of silhouettes.
I decided to go to the north window and take pictures through it. When I got there someone was trying to light up the arch. So after taking a couple of pictures I gave up and went around to the other side.
This is a time lapse of sunrise on the North and South windows.
I turned around and took some sunrise pictures
I went to Double Arch knowing the lighting was not very good and was not disappointed. I took some silhouettes and left.
Vicki and I spend some time checking out Moab. We have found some restaurants with patios that will let us bring Max.
