Day 34: Visit Arches National Park for the first time

Last evening while taking pictures of the sunset I noticed that sunrise should light up the mountain wall behind the RV park.  So, I wake  up this morning and walk up the street to the last one before the mountain.  I am feeling uncomfortable about taking pictures of peoples houses and walking on there property.  I take a few more pictures before sunrise.  I then decide this is not right and walk back to UTT.

After breakfast, we head off to Arches and the visitor center.  The pictures are not too bad considering that it is a bad time of the day to be taking pictures.

Since Arches is closed, I decide Vicki, Max and I will go exploring.  There are many scenic byways in Utah. One of these is highway 279 which parallels the Colorado River.  So we follow it.  Along the ways we see lots of campgrounds and several pull-offs for trail heads.  There is even an area along the road where people pull off and go rock climbing. It turns out that there are lots of trees and things to get in the way of seeing the Colorado River, which is disappointing.  So I take one of these trail head turnoffs in the hope of getting above the tree line.

Next we come up on Gold Bar Recreation area, which has a couple of trail heads, camping, and boating.  It took me a while to find a spot to get above the trees.  By that time the lighting had changed.

After a few pictures, we head back toward Moab.

Next:  Canyonlands and the beginning of the two days when Arches is open 24 hours!!!
