Day 47: Rain

Wednesday, May 17, 2017

Today I finally ran out of gas for morning pictures.  The weather called for rain on and off with wind.  So, around 9am I head off the Zion NP to get some pictures.  On this kind of day the clouds can be low around the mountains.  Also, on overcast days it is usually a good time to take pictures of flowers.  The prickly pears are blooming at certain elevations.

I head to Zion and get on the bus.  I go to the 4th stop, which is the Court of the Patriarchs.

Waterfall that exists only when raining.

From the bus stop

I was outfitted with my raincoat, camera backpack and tripod.  Normally, i have the tripod on the back of the pack but when I put on the rain cover, I have to carry the tripod.  I have a rain cover on the camera even though the Olympus is supposed to be weather-sealed.

Next I get off the bus at the Grotto stop to hike Kayenta Trail, which leads to the Emerald Pools.  It will have some nice views of the Virgin river and cactus blooming.  It is still raining.

Too bad the one flower is out of focus

Now to the Emerald Pools

No sunset pictures today.
