Day 69: Bye bye Yellowstone - Hello Grand Tetons
Thursday, June 8, 2017
Bye bye to the Black Bear Inn
and Gardiner, MT
A few last stops in Yellowstone
Bear sighting at Calcite Springs. A mother black bear with two cubs. There was also a young black bear but not by this mother.
The mother bear calls the cubs to safety. The ranger there said that there was a male bear around, which would be a danger to the cubs.
They go up the tree.
The mother bear keeps a vigilant eye out.
All clear called by Mama bear.
This is the other young black bear.
One last look at the owls
A hawk looking for food at Donavan Pass
We go through Hayden Valley next. We find some bison cooling off on left over snow.
There is a coyote in these pictures. I was hoping it was a wolf but it was not.
I guess all dogs do this.
We did not actually leave this way. We left via the south entrance.
Hello Grand Tetons
We arrive at Grand Teton's Colter Village around 3pm but were not able to get into the cabin until 6pm. They were running way behind in cleaning cabins.
We found out that the cabins did not have A/C. Today is very warm so we get a window fan. It turns out the cabin has a ceiling fan, which is all we need.
Not sure how to turn this right side up in the blog, but this is the registration site.
The first impression is that the cabin is not worth the $181 a night before taxes.
We were hungry so we ate at one of the local restaurants.
Vicki and I decided to take a hike to see if we could find any wildlife. About a 1/2 mile into the hike we were being eaten alive by mosquitos. I stopped long enough to get a picture of a beaver.
